The story behind this yarn

Texelaar and alpaca

The Texelaar is the most common sheep breed in the Netherlands. Anyone cycling past a Dutch meadow is almost always looking at this animal.

In this yarn, wool from Dutch Texelaar and Blue Texelaar sheep is blended with Dutch alpaca wool. Each color forms its own batch, using wool from different animals.

The wool used for this has a high micron count. But what is a micron? A micron is the thickness of a single wool fiber: one thousandth of a millimeter. The higher the number, the thicker the fiber and the more you feel it on your skin.

How you spin determines how the yarn feels. The more twist, the more compact and firm the thread. This yarn has no twist. As a result, the fibers lie loosely, the thread retains air, and it feels softer than a tightly twisted thread of the same wool.

The fiber itself does not change. This yarn remains firmer than yarn made from merino wool. You will notice that against a bare neck. In a sweater or cardigan, it works well: it holds its shape, it does not sag, and it does not wear out easily.

Technical Information
Care and washing instructions

Washing and care
Wash as little as possible. Wool does not need to be washed after every wear. A night outside or by an open window often does wonders. A small stain? Dab it with lukewarm water and a drop of wool detergent. Let it dry and it's done.

This yarn is thick and absorbs a lot of moisture. Therefore, it is best to wash this knit in the washing machine on the wool cycle.

Washing in the washing machine
• Preparation: Ensure the detergent drawer and drum are free of detergent residue.
• Washing: Select the wool cycle at a maximum of 30 °C. Use a small amount of wool detergent.
• Spin cycle: Maximum 800 rpm.

Drying: flat. Always.
Remove the knit from the machine immediately. Reshape it while laying it flat and let it dry that way.
Never hang it. Not on a hanger, not on a clothesline. Not in the sun, not on the radiator, and not in the tumble dryer.

Need a quick refresh?
Do you want to freshen up the knit or bring it back into shape? Steam it gently. Hold the iron just above the knit, without touching the fabric.

Pilling
Wool can form small balls on the surface of a knit due to friction. This is part of wearing woolen clothing. Gently remove the balls with a wool comb or fabric shaver.

I consciously choose not to use an anti-pilling treatment because I want to maintain the natural properties and appearance of the wool.

Before knitting
Wash and block your swatch exactly as you will wash the garment later. This yarn shrinks during the first wash after knitting. Therefore, measure your swatch before and after washing, so you know what to account for when determining the size.
