A workshop in Rotterdam. Here, research is conducted, spinning is done, and knitting takes place.
Ministry of Knits is the studio of Nathalie Comans. She is a designer, researcher, and knitting specialist. She collaborates with universities, designers, and spinning mills. She teaches. She documents. And she knits herself, on hand-knitting machines that have stood here for years.
What Nathalie does, almost no one else in the Netherlands does. She follows a wool fiber from sheep to garment and records every step. Which breed, which farmer, which spinning method, which yarn. That knowledge is her profession. She records this systematically.
Custom knitted
With my wool, I knit the most beautiful basics
In addition to the yarns, Nathalie also makes knitted garments. Sweaters, cardigans, sometimes a hat or a scarf. All made to measure, on hand-knitting machines in this studio, and using only the yarns that Nathalie has developed.
A garment is not an impulse buy. It is made for one person, in one size, using the yarn that suits the wearer. Those who would like one first come by for a fitting session.
