The story behind this yarn
Texelaar and alpaca
The Texelaar is the most common sheep breed in the Netherlands. Anyone cycling past a Dutch meadow is almost always looking at this animal.
In this yarn, wool from Dutch Texelaar and Blue Texelaar sheep is blended with Dutch alpaca wool. Each color forms its own batch, using wool from different animals.
The wool used for this has a high micron count. But what is a micron? A micron is the thickness of a single wool fiber: one thousandth of a millimeter. The higher the number, the thicker the fiber and the more you feel it on your skin.
How you spin determines how the yarn feels. The more twist, the more compact and firm the thread. This yarn has no twist. As a result, the fibers lie loosely, the thread retains air, and it feels softer than a tightly twisted thread of the same wool.
The fiber itself does not change. This yarn remains firmer than yarn made from merino wool. You will notice that against a bare neck. In a sweater or cardigan, it works well: it holds its shape, it does not sag, and it does not wear out easily.
