The story behind this yarn

Trix

Trix yarn balls are exclusively available at the De Afstap store in Amsterdam.
Oude Leliestraat 12.

The strength of Trix lies in the combination: different types of wool that reinforce each other. Dutch merino provides fine softness, while wool from other carefully selected Dutch sheep breeds adds natural resilience. Together, they create a unique carded yarn that is soft and resilient, full of volume, shape-retaining, and full of character.

Too good to throw away
The Dutch merino wool we use for Trix is also special. Usually, only the long wool from the back is used. The wool from the belly and the head is shorter and dirtier, and is often discarded or processed into lower-quality products. A shame, because at about 19.5 microns, this wool is just as fine as the rest of the fleece.
We carefully sort the shorter merino fibers and blend them with more voluminous Dutch wool. This gives this valuable wool a wonderful purpose.

Soft, but with spirit
Trix has the softness of merino, but with some extra body. The wool blend makes the yarn nice and full and helps your knitwear hold its shape beautifully. Great for a sweater or cardigan you want to curl up in, but also for a pillow, throw, or warm blanket. Crochet and weaving are also great options, of course!

And would you like to work with color yourself? The natural base is perfect for dyeing.

Care and washing instructions

Washing and care
Wash as little as possible. Wool does not need to be washed after every wear. A night outside or near an open window often does wonders. A small stain? Dab it with lukewarm water and a drop of wool detergent. Let it dry and you're done.

Washing can be done either by hand or in the washing machine.
Hand wash:
• Washing: Use lukewarm water (maximum 30 °C) and a small amount of wool detergent.
• Soaking: Let the garment soak for about 20 minutes. Rinsing is not necessary.
• Removing excess water: Gently squeeze the water out (do not wring). Lay the garment on a towel and roll the towel up. Apply pressure to the roll to press the water out of the knit — do not wring or twist!
Washing in the washing machine:
• Preparation: Ensure the soap dispenser and the drum are free of soap residue.
• Washing: Select the wool cycle at a maximum of 30 °C. Use a small amount of wool detergent.
• Spin cycle: Maximum 800 rpm.
• Remove the knit from the machine immediately.

Drying: flat. Always.
Lay the knit flat to shape and let it dry that way.
Never hang it. Not on a hanger, not on a clothesline. Not in the sun, not on the radiator, and not in the dryer.

Need a refresh?
Do you want to freshen up the knit or bring it back into shape? Steam it carefully. Hold the iron just above the knit, without touching the fabric.

Pilling
Friction can cause small balls to form on the surface of wool knitwear. This is part of wearing wool clothing. Carefully remove the balls with a wool comb or fabric shaver.
I consciously choose not to use an anti-pilling treatment, as I want to maintain the natural properties and appearance of the wool.

Before knitting
Wash and block your swatch exactly the way you will wash the garment later. Measure your swatch before and after washing, so you know how much to account for when determining the size.
